I love a good water marble like anyone else, but the thought of going through the whole process of taping my fingers, making sure the water is right, endless clean up…. makes me go “ehhhh, I’ll just do something else with my nails”. That was until I saw a really cool rendition of the standard water marble and just had to try it…
This looks like a really cool turquoise and if I wouldn’t have been so totally obsessed with ORLY’s “Oh Cabana Boy” I would have thought about using an awesome blue… but I digress.
So, you will need a few supplies to make this happen:
- Cup of lukewarm/room temp water
- polish to marble with ( glitter and metallic polish will not work in this process)
- Orange sticks
- Spray hand sanitizer (I was unable to find any in the store, so I used 70% Ethyl Alcohol in a travel size spray bottle)
- Acetone ( in the cap for the acetone, easier to use in my opinion)
First things first, pick your base polish 1-2 coats and make sure that they are dried completely! Then the best tip I can ever give anyone who wants to marble is use scotch tape to cover your cuticles, TRUST ME this will save you so much time and heartache so wrap those babies up!!!
Next, you want to take the color that you want to use as the “marble” and let the polish “drop” into the water and let spread out, then “drop” again.. do this about 3-4 times until it is as dark as you like (Note if the polish doesn’t spread or the polish goes right to the bottom, you may want to adjust the temperature of your water):
Now you’ll want to spray your alcohol based spray into the water, depending on how close you spray you may need to spray more than once to get the separation that you are looking for:
Now it’s time to dip! I place my finger directly onto the top of the design of the polish that I like, leave it there for a few seconds, then take my orange stick and pull the excess away from my nail, it wraps right around the stick and comes out easily!
This is what it looks like when you pull your finger out of the water, now aren’t you glad you put that tape on??
Pull that tape off and clean up as you go! I find that cleaning up after each dip makes it allot easier!
After clean up, add a topcoat and you are good to go! These are so much fun!!!
